• Create social media accounts for your event (don't use personal accounts).  Be sure the name matches across all platforms.
• Make a facebook Event and a Facebook group for your event.
• List your event on https://action.womensmarch.com/events/new
• Once you've made all of your accounts create a Linktree and have it posted on each account in your bio
• Post Daily on all of your social media account (even if it's the same thing)

Choose Your Location for the JUNE 24th Women's Strike

The State Capitol is a very common location for events like these. Public properties, Government Buildings, and Student campuses are all good options.

• When scouting for a location, be mindful of the local laws and permitting requirements.
• Choose a location that is central, accessible and can accommodate a large crowd.

Map out your March

If you've been to marches in your area, You probably already know this route. You may be asked to provide this when applying for a permit so have a screenshot with your route planned out. This is also something you want to post and have available to share, the day of the event.  Stay off side streets and out of neighborhoods.

• Stay in well populated areas but if possible avoid busy roads.
• Identify risks and create a plan to mitigate them (Weather, traffic,counter protesters)

Obtain Necessary Permits

We encourage all of the organizers to do their best to be compliant. However we understand that red tape or financial requirements may prevent you from being able to obtain a permit. In this case it is important to remember that it is our Constitutional right to assemble peacefully en masse. Proceed anyway.

• Clearly state the reason for your gathering (Women's Strike 2024. A strike for equality, women's reproductive rights and  human rights)
• Google the zip code to understand the permit requirements.
• Submit permit applications well in advance and follow up regularly. When applying for your permit, avoid saying words that will get your request denied. Like “Protest”.
• Ensure compliance with all local regulations, including noise ordinances.
• NO Sooner than 1 Week before your event, as courtesy and a peace offering…Notify law enforcement of “A peaceful gathering”.

Arrange Sound Equipment

If you obtained a permit, There is a good chance you have access to power but may need a key to access it.

• If you do not have access to plug in, you can Rent or borrow a generator.
• Rent or borrow sound equipment (microphones, speakers, amplifiers) Know any DJ’s? See if they would be willing to volunteer DJ your event. Bartenders know a lot of DJs too.
• Have a playlist ready for while people gather. Music relevant to the movement.
• Test the equipment beforehand to ensure it works properly.

Invite Guest Speakers (6 at 6 minutes each is common)

• Identify influential speakers who align with the cause BE INCLUSIVE. They don't need to be famous. Their stories and lived experience are what's most important.
• Send formal invitations with event details and expectations.
• Confirm attendance and gather any special requirements they may have and a copy of their intended speech.

Plan for Safety and Medical Assistance

• Set up a medical tent with basic first aid supplies, Water and some snacks.
• Coordinate with local medical professionals or organizations for support. If you know someone in the field. Reach out. You want preferably to have 2 Registered nurses at your tent.
• Ensure there are clear signs and trained volunteers to assist in case of emergencies.

Provide Accessibility Services

• Do your best to find a volunteer sign language interpreter to ensure the event is accessible to the deaf and hard-of-hearing community.
• Arrange for accessible paths and seating for people with disabilities.
• Consider providing written materials or transcripts of speeches.

Create and Distribute Promotional Materials

• Create a QR Code to print on promo materials that will send them right to your linktree.
• Design flyers, posters, and social media graphics to promote the event. Our logo kit is available through email upon request.
• Distribute materials to local women driven businesses. Through various channels (social media, community boards, radio, local media).
• Encourage supporters to share the event details with their networks.

Recruit Event Marshalls/Peacekeepers

Connect with past organizers in your area to find out if there are any groups (NOT off duty PD) to keep attendees safe from traffic, counter protesters or other aggressors.

• One or more ORGANIZED groups of people with safety in mind.
• Provide these volunteers with contact information for team leads and emergency procedures.

Prepare for Media Coverage

• Write a press release and distribute it to local media outlets. Template is available on our website.
• Designate a media liaison to handle inquiries and provide information during the event.
• Set up a designated area for media representatives to ensure they have a good vantage point.

Develop a Contingency Plan

• Prepare for potential issues such as bad weather, counter-protesters, or logistical challenges.
• Have a backup plan ready.
• Brief the team on contingency procedures.

Conduct a Final Walkthrough

• Check all arrangements the day before the event to ensure everything is in place.
• Confirm details with any vendors, speakers, and volunteers.
• Have a contact list for all key personnel handy.
